This pavilion shades patrons of the MoMA PS1 from the sun in the summer months. Allowing for a cool break from the sun during the day while also keeping the space open to the city lights during the night. The structure is fully created through an algorithm. Only the footprint of the pavilion is input. The domed structure that is created is held up by a crossing frame to support the shape of the structure. The sunshades are only allowed to take up half of the available panel spaces allowing for both shade and the city lights to shine through. Maximizing for shade created the panel layout most suitable for the organic shape for the pavilion and can be visualized as a heat map over the generated panels.
