Using technology to aid design.
The goal was to create an algorithm to aide in program layout and budget forecasting. This would add the ability to quickly iterate layouts for a particular space according to program requirements. The algorithm started out as a budget forecasting spreadsheet that referenced market rates for interior build outs. This was then combined with custom scripting that broke up interior spaces into blocks and assigned scores to the locations. The scores allowed for a set of parameters to find the best score for their field. Whichever parameters were placed higher of importance would generate a different set of possible layouts for the spaces. The layouts could be used as a reference to continue with the design process and the budget forecasting could be discussed with the client. In the future layouts could be compared to built plans to give better feedback for the algorithm and the parameter values desired.
